Eyewear museum - Morez

The eyewear museum takes visitors through the entire history of eyewear in the region, the stages in the manufacture of metal frames as well as the lives of men and women who have worked in this two-hundred-year-old industry. In the second section, visitors are able to test their eyesight and learn about visual defects using interactive modules. The museum also has on display the largest collection of eyewear and vision aids in the world, and traces the history of their origins right up to the most futuristic designs.

Donated by François-Honoré Jourdain in 1877 to his native town, this collection reflects the tastes of a nineteenth century collector in landscape, history and genre paintings of the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
