Built at the beginning of the XIII century by the de Chalon family at the top of the Peak of Oliferne, the château gives an outstanding view over the valley of the Ain. Destroyed in 1592 by the troops of Henri IV, the entire building is currently the subject of restoration work. There is vehicular access from the hamlet of Boutavant to within 800 m of the château. From there, access to the site on foot is via a « heritage trail » with interpretation boards.
