In the footsteps of the Gallo-Romans and the Merovingians…
The museum recounts the story of the lives of the peoples who lived on the second Jura plateau between the I and VII century: the Gallo-Roman sanctuary at the summit of Mont Rivel, an artisan quarter specialising in the production of the famous « Sequani salted foods » at Saint-Germain-en-Montagne, Merovingian cemeteries of Crotenay and Monnet-la-Ville.
Renovated in 2004, the Merovingian room brings these societies to life. Weapons and jewellery are evidence of the skills of their craftsmen. Recreations of remarkable individuals whose tombs have been discovered give us an intimate insight into the lives of the Burgundians and Francs who lived at Combe d’Ain 1,500 years ago.
