Metalworking route

Since ancient times, Jura blacksmiths have worked metal. Some beautifully crafted items are displayed in the museums of archaeology at Dole and Champagnole. The Jura forges utilised the driving force of water from the watercourses and flourished particularly in the XIX century.  An independent lifestyle based on the « paternalism » of the forge masters was centred around the factory: metalworkers' accommodation, chapel, garden, house of the forge masters. Metalworking activity still has a very high profile even today, in particular around Champagnole.
