High Jura crafts and industries

Born during the long winter months when families found ways to occupy their time, craft workshops specialised around geographical zones or particular skills. Using natural resources (wood, water), a real industrial infrastructure developed in the High Jura.  Around Bois d’Amont there were white cooperage woodworkers, around Morez spectacle-makers, people who worked with gemstones around Lamoura, woodturners on the Lizon and toymakers in the area around Moirans. Displays in many of the museums focus on these unique trades.
